At Xylem, solving customer needs and addressing sustainability issues often go hand-in-hand.
For example, creating energy-efficient products allows customers to save money on their utility bills and stay in compliance with increasingly strict energy-reduction regulations. At the same time, these energy-efficient products put less demand on energy companies to create electricity or fuel, which in turn lowers their greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy-efficiency is the hallmark of Xylem products in all market segments. For wastewater customers, our new Flygt Experior combines state-of-the-art hydraulics, premium efficiency motors and intelligent controls into a single system that offers up to 50 percent energy savings compared to conventional pumps. To help commercial building customers meet the ASHRAE 90.1 standard – which calls for net-zero energy-efficient buildings by 2032 – we provide a wide variety of energy-saving heat, cooling and booster pumps. We also introduced a new software tool that helps engineers specify the right Xylem products to meet ASHRAE 90.1 guidelines.
Our product portfolio is advancing sustainability in other ways, too.
Researchers are using our analytical instruments to understand how Lake Tanganyika in East Africa supports so many fish species found nowhere else. Scientists are using them to study changes to surface water quality when forest land transitions to low-impact real estate development.
Consumers who collect rain water in barrels can now use our solar-powered RainPerfect™ pump to push the water through their garden hoses. Rain barrels are simple water re-use systems that can lessen homeowners’ demand for dwindling supplies of municipal water – by an average of 650 gallons per year – and also help reduce water run-off during heavy rain storms, which in turn keeps some pollutants from entering the watershed. With RainPerfect, we're making rain barrels a more viable water-saving solution for homeowners.
